Overview
The Camino Francés runs roughly 790 km from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, across the Pyrenees and the plains of Castile, to the cathedral city of Santiago de Compostela. It is the most established of all the Camino routes, with an unbroken chain of albergues, cafés and waymarks the whole way.
Most pilgrims walk the full route in around 33 days, but the last 100 km from Sarria — the minimum for a Compostela certificate — is a rewarding week on its own. Whichever section you choose, the walking is moderate and the infrastructure is superb.

How many days do I need for the Camino?
The full Camino Francés takes most walkers about 33 days. If you have a week, the final 100 km from Sarria to Santiago is the classic short option and qualifies for the Compostela.

When is the best time to walk?
Late April to June and September to October offer the best balance of weather and crowds. July and August are hot on the meseta and busiest around Sarria.
